Urban Redevelopment Records
The Urban Redevelopment records are from the Lawrence Redevelopment Authority and the Lawrence Planning department. Records of Lawrence's major Redevelopment projects include : Plains Project, Common Valley Concord Project, Broadway Essex Project and Garden Union Allen Project. The Saunders Improvement records ( South Lawrence) are also available. Records include administration records; dwelling appraisals and photographs; relocation records; business replacement records; blue-print sized drawings and maps.
Photographs of the houses affected have been catalogued and are available by street name. Other records are being processed by Susan Edwards, archivist from Salem State College and Barbara Brown, Acting Director of Lawrence History Center.
The processing of this collection, now in its second year of work, has been funded in part by Essex National Heritage, Northeast Regional Massachusetts Library System (NMRLS)/ Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners ( MBLC) and the Rosman Family Fund.
