Lost to Development
How many remember the Urban Renewal period in the mid-20th century? Some of the urban blight in Lawrence was ghastly; some structures were not fit for human habitation. We have the records here; we have seen the photos.
But what was taken down for "renewal?"

thanks for starting this column.; it is important to try and develop criteria. We do not really have any structures related to the Bread and Roses Stike that are protected. There is a very endangered structure at 9 Mason Street, that was formerly the Franco-Belgian club where strikers met. It is quite altered, but still stands without any recognition or plaque.
We also have in Lawrence structures in adaptative reuse that are preserved. The example of the adaptive reuse of the former Lawrence Public Library on Hampshire and Haverhill is the first that came to mind.
