Lawrence Lawlor School Kindergarteners ~ Enjoying the History Center

On June 17, 2010 22 kindergarten students from the Lawlor School visited the Lawrence History Center.

They explored the Vault, and couldn't believe how large some of the record books were. They also marveled at the oversized atlas which was as big as some of them!

We showed them photographs of school children from 100 years ago. They couldn't believe some of those students went to school in bare feet!

Our visitors listened to music the way people did long ago - on the Victrola (record player). They had to cover their ears when we showed them how to turn up the volume - it was so loud!

The bright students had plenty of smart questions about the ice box and trunks that were used by immigrants coming to Lawrence.
They explored the forge and examined the tools used by the Essex Co. workers of long ago. Lastly, they saw the old fire truck and the remains of the Truell Building which are in our courtyard. We had a wonderful time hosting these terrific students and their teachers, and hope they come back again with their families one day.
