Summer 2010~ The Lawrence History Center is privileged to have three Lawrence residents interning here at 6 Essex Street for six weeks this summer. Assisting the Center with cataloging, they will be working under the supervision of Amita Kiley and Helen Sappupo. The students are helping us make the collections more available to the public while at the same time gaining a deeper understanding of their own City's history.
Kassandra and Yinett will be seniors at Lawrence High School in the fall and Natasha is a graduate of LHS Class of 2010. She'll be attending U Mass Lowell in the fall. The girls are learning how to digitize our Oral History tape cassettes, organize our ethnic collections, clip and file newspaper articles and obituaries, and sort and identify our enormous collection of Essex County Jail records. They also helped install the WPA exhibit in our courtyard shed. We are thrilled to have such talent join the LHC team!
Funding for these interns has been provided in part by the Merrimack Valley General Fund through the Essex County Community Foundation.
