Oral History Samples
Here are some samples of oral histories to try. These are two 5 minute recordings, the first is using a copy tape and very cheap recorder, and the second is using an original tape and a good quality deck. These two samples therefore peg the lower and upper bounds on the quality we're likely to expect from digitizing our histories.
First, Eartha Dengler from 2000 played back on a cheap deck using a copy of the original tape. It has been processed by normalizing and using a notch filter to remove a 480Hz hum.
Second, Eileen Kourhy from 2001 played back on the LHC Yamaha deck. Only normalization has been done.
Please let Matt know if you have any troubles accessing these audio files. They are mp3 files, 44.1KHz sampling rate, mono at a 64K mp3 bitrate, and should play on any PC equipped with sound. Also, the files could be saved and played on a portable mp3 player.
