LHC Internal Network
The objective of the LHC internal network is to provide reliable, high-speed internet access to every node on the network, since our applications are built on the web as much as possible. In addition, the network allows easy file and printer sharing.
The LHC Internal Network is ethernet-based, with ethernet switches on each floor. This internal network connects to a high-speed internet link (Verizon ADSL) which allows every node on the network access to the internet.
There is a wifi antenna on the second floor to provide network access to nodes in hard-to-wire spots (like the stacks) and for researchers who bring laptops. This wifi access is secured with the highest level of encryption (WPA2).

Server
At this point, we have not yet implemented a server for data storage, or a network-wide logon system. This is a high-priority for the beginning of 2008. As it is now, documents are stored locally and backed up individually. We will be installing a backup server and configuring the individual workstations to use this store. This system will be in place before significant digitization and repository data is created.
