| Eartha's accent and lack of vocal strength makes it difficult yet despite that the balance is quite good.
Again, Eartha's accent emphasizes the sssssssss.
Tape ends abruptly - needs to be connected with another tape
Constant background noise - buzz in the background.
Some lags between question and answer but that may be Eartha thinking. |

| At first it is extremely hard to understand what the interviewer is saying. He sounds very, very muffled. It gets clearer as the tape goes on though. Buckley is loud and clear, however.
I didn't hear any screeching or drawn out s sounds, but there is humming and static throughout.
At the 9 minute, 11 minute, and 24 minutes mark the audio cuts out for 5 seconds to almost a minute, and you can't hear anything. At 31 minutes, the volume lowers then goes back up.
The beginning is smooth, but the file stops suddenly.
I don't think this one is ready for the web as it is, a transcript would be necessary for the listener to follow along. |

| This file is much easier to listen to than its 1st part. Still, the interviewer sounds muffled at times. When I just listened to the interview from the speakers on the computer it was clearer, but I couldn't really hear it (probably because the computer's speakers are not that strong). When I plugged in the speakers, I could hear it better (louder), but it didn't seem as clear.
I think the quality of this file is the poorest we can allow on the website. In other words, if we can't improve the sound quality it can still go on the web, but every other file should sound as good as this or better - not worse. If it is worse, it is not good enough for the website. |

| The first half is very clear, though there is some static in the first minutes, and in the second half of the file there is a lot of static. At some points it sounds like there is a hair dryer going on in the background (of course there is not, but I wanted to give an example of the sound). This seems to be more like a monologue, as I do not hear the interviewer ask any questions. I think this file should be cleaned up a bit before putting it on the web. |

| I couldn't believe the clarity of this interview, especially when the interviewee announced that he was 97 years old! You could hear them both so well and they were both so clear. No background noise at all.
As a side note, the interviewee becomes suspicious as to why the interviewer keeps asking about the Strike of 1912. He talks about all the people killed by the "drunks and gamblers" during the strike, but can't provide any names of the victims. He wants to "forget the whole damn thing". It is very funny and endearing. |

| This tape is excellent - some minor small pauses. The two things worth mentioning -there is a low, quiet ssssshhh underlying the recording ( sound like that of a sea shell held to ear) ; second cuts of very abruptly at end in mid sentence. Mary seems a bit faint at 10:00; 16:45; The only place with voice variance is at 16:45 - Mary fades and Joan is loud; again at 23:30 - Joan is loud. This is very well done. |

Phone ringing at 1:01 and 5:16. 6:13 - clearing throat quite loud. 13:25 - Burst of voice; 15:00 throat clearing - towards end narrator very hard to hear. Interview ends and then there is avery abrupt voice change at last few seconds that needs to be removed.

The lady being interviewed becomes excited at times so her voice gets very high and she speaks quite loudly. You really have to concentrate to understand this interview at some points.
This can go on the website, once it is cleaned up (if that's possible), but the quality shouldn't be any worse than this for the website. |
