The church rents across the street from their former church at the Emmett/Dewhirst Funeral Chapel. The narrator describes an older congregation who are very generous and involved in acts of charity. Duperry was involved in the corps, and the others tell of their experiences. The corps evolved from the cadet corps. They always won in competitions. The corps ended in 1951. He blames the displacement of 3,000 people as a cause for the demise of Essex St. He eventually owned 200 of the new apartments which replaced the demolished structures; the developer had run into problems. The narrator's mother had a business, the Remnant Store, first on Essex St. and later on Cardillo Way. An important part of the interview is Angelo Rocco's philosophy and his respect for education. The family lived in Lawrence because of the school system.
